Who’s hot in Hollywood?

Anthony Mackie has a very impressive resumé, having starred in two Academy Award winning films – “The Hurt Locker” & “Million Dollar Baby”, as well as “8 Mile”, “Half Nelson”, “Notorious”, “Night Catches Us” and this year’s release “The Adjustment Bureau”. Next, we’ll see him star as Buddy in the Buddy Bolden biopic “Bolden!” and then he’ll appear alongside Hugh Jackman & Evangeline Lilly in “Real Steel”, an upcoming American sci-fi film directed by Shawn Levy. It’s based on the 1956 short story “Steel” by Richard Matheson and is scheduled to be released in October.

Of course Emma Stone is in the all-star ensemble cast of “Movie 43”, which includes the likes of Kristen Bell, Halle Berry, Josh Duhamel, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Chloë Moretz, Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet & Johnny Knoxville. 2011 will also bring us “The Help”, in which Stone is the lead role with Viola Davis,Octavia Spencer & Bryce Dallas Howard in supporting roles and “Crazy, Stupid, Love”with Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Brendan Fraser & Ryan Gosling. She is currently filming “The Amazing Spider-Man” with Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen & Sally Field. Her co-star in “Crazy, Stupid, Love”…

Ryan Gosling is one of my favourite actors. He delivers honest performances & I always believe the portrayals of the characters he plays because everything he does is grounded in reality — see his performance in last year’s beautifully sad “Blue Valentine”. *Note: he is also Anthony Mackie’s co-star in “Half Nelson”. Are you starting to realise that Hollywood is really small? Yeah me too* 2011 for Ryan = “Drive” with Carey Mulligan, which is set to be released in September. Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) also appears in the film with direction from Nicolas Winding Refn…which brings us nicely onto…

Tom Hardy, who played Bronson in the film of the same name, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. Hardy is currently filming “The Dark Knight Rises” as Bane. I cannot wait to see Nolan’s third Batman, but in the meantime, you’ll be able to catch Hardy on the big screen in two films this year. “Warrior” is an upcoming action drama film about mixed martial arts due for release in September and “This Means War” is a comedy which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. The story centres around Pine and Hardy, who are two spies. They end up going to war with one another after they both fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon).

Mila Kunis is hot. Period. But she’s also doing really well and is ‘hot’ in Hollywood following her role in Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” which garnered her critical acclaim. She is the lead in this summer’s release “Friends with Benefits” alongside JT and I’m sure we can expect big things from this little lady in the not too distant future…

as can we with Ms. Jennifer Lawrence who has recently been announced to play Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist in the upcoming “The Hunger Games”. This year however, she tackles Mystique in the Summer release, “X-Men: First Class”.

James Franco is everywhere. He’s got a book (which I read and enjoyed), he’s on the cover of magazines and now he’s even joined Twitter (conveniently right before he hosted the Academy Awards). He’s in three films set to be released this year. First up is “Your Highness”, in which Franco plays Prince Fabious, brother to Danny McBride’s Prince Thadeous. Then it’s “Rise of the Apes”, where he is joined by Freida Pinto & Andy Serkis and finally JF appears in “In Praise of Shadows”.

Last year Zoë Kravitz appeared in “Twelve” and an awesome little film called “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”. This year, she can be seen as one of the leads in “Yelling to the Sky” alongside Gabourey Sidibe and as Angel Salvadore, a mutant with insectoid physiology, in “X-Men: First Class”.

Gemma Arterton is also ‘hot in Hollywood’. Just look at her CV, she means business. For me, her performances in “The Disappearance of Alice Creed” and “Tamara Drewe”, highlighted both her strength and versatility as an actress. One was a drama, the other a (sort-of) comedy and she was great in both films. Although she’s not actually set to appear in any films dropping this year, she is currently filming “Wrath of the Titans” (sequel to 2010’s “Clash of the Titans” and she will be playing Gretel in “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” alongside Jeremy Renner as Hansel. If that wasn’t enough, she has also been filming a role in “Men In Black III”, so expect to see lots of Gemma in the cinema come 2012.
