Today = the seventeenth issue of SCOUTS SHOUTS, where I blog about my favourite song of the week, my album of the week, film of the week…you get the idea. Be sure to check back every Thursday to see what’s hot that week.
Album of the week
This week I’ve been spinning SOLANGE Knowles’ sophomore album, “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams” and my, my, my what an amazing album it is. It’s soulful, sassy and oozes a retro feel that I would personally love to hear on records more. Even though it was released in the Summer of ’08, I still bump it because Ms Knowles has cooked up a musical feast, from the starry “Cosmic Journey” to the hopping beat of “Sandcastle Disco”, it’s not only cohesive, but such a strong offering and to be honest, I’m upset that more people haven’t heard it. Solange manages to combine her influences from the 60s and 70s with a modern sound and thus the results boast roots in both the past and present. Her voice soars on “Dancing In The Dark” and “I Decided” makes everyone want to dance. So, if you haven’t, go and check out “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams” now, you won’t be disappointed.
Such a beaut voice.
Song of the week
Drake’s “Club Paradise” is a jam. That is all.
Crush of the week
Michelle Williams
US Vogue
October 2011

Williams looks magnificent as Marilyn Monroe and I can’t wait to see her as the icon in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN when it finally comes out.
Every shot tells a story. That’s how it should be.
Pat yourself on the back Vogue, you did well.
Very well.
Film of the week
My crush leads me very nicely onto my film of the week. Michelle Williams is a tremendous actress and if you haven’t already seen BLUE VALENTINE, you must. It’s incredible. Paired with Ryan Gosling (one of my favourite actors) and directed by the genius that is Derek Cianfrance = something really special. Read my thoughts on the film here.
